The "Proverbial Box" was an epic, five-part thread started by TenOutofTen in the American Idol forums during Season 7. The OP was written on April 11, 2008, with the original title of, "The Proverbial Box and Why DC Will Win." It was Top 8 week, and David had just sung "Innocent."
Over the next two months, the PB became a community....and as AI finished, with Ten's Prophetic OP fulfilled, we moved here to our permanent home, daring each other to move, and grow, and learn, and love a little better....in a busy community of out-of-the-box thinkers, joyfully following the story of David's rise as an artist.
Here's how Ten explained what "the box" was: "The "Proverbial Box" is from "thinking outside of the box." It is a standard of creativity, expression, and musical execution. There is THE box and how far inside or outside of it a musician is. On a philosophical note, the "box" can apply to anything in your daily life. How do you live your life? How creative are you? How tastefully and fascinatingly outside of the norm are you?"
The PB is a community of mutually supportive people who share the fun of supporting David Cook and his career, but also have wide-ranging interests that we discuss here. This is a place for exploring diverse topics, but kindness and thoughtfulness remain hallmarks of our interaction with each other.
